Volunteering

Home / Volunteering

Association depends on the help of volunteers in many aspects. Volunteering can be a fun and rewarding way of helping the homeless pets entrusted to us. Just a few hours a week can make a huge difference in the life of one of these pets!

So what can volunteers help with?

CUSTOMER CARE: This is a hugely important part of our job here! Volunteers can assist with greeting customers, showing customers around the building, assist clerical staff with answering phones, and entering data.

EVENT SUPPORT:  Wanderers’ Rest is out in the community almost every weekend. With so many events to attend we need volunteers to help setup, breakdown, greet visitors, and handle animals.

MAINTENANCE: Facility upkeep is essential in running a successful shelter. We always need help with the basic outdoor tasks such as mowing the lawn, weed whacking, landscaping, shoveling, snow blowing, etc. Also, if you are handy in carpentry or repair work, please let us know.

CLEANING:  There is a great deal of work that our shelter staff completes each day. This includes washing, the floors, cleaning up the grounds, laundry, dishes and general cleaning throughout the day. Assisting them with these every day tasks is a big help.

TLC: This fun job includes caring for the animals by walking, socializing, brushing, bathing, and reading to them.

TRANSPORTATION: We need volunteers to drive animals to and from vet offices in the morning, pick up donations from local vendors, and transporting animals to and from offsite events. You must be 18 years old and have a NYS driver’s license.
