Home / Services / Lost and Found / Redeeming A Lost Dog Or Cat

(This Process Applies to ALL Towns in Madison County)

Before a dog can be released from Wanderers’ Rest it must have a current rabies shot and a current dog license.

Before a dog can be licensed in Madison County, it must have current rabies shot, which is documented in certificate form from a veterinary office or clinic.

STEPS TO FOLLOW IF YOU HAVE A CURRENT DOG LICENSE:

  1. Bring your valid license and current rabies certificate to Wanderers’ Rest.  You will be required to pay applicable town fees, plus any vaccine fees and boarding fees incurred.  Boarding fees are $10/day after the first 24 hours. Towns fees vary depending on the town, city or village and Wanderers’ Rest will be able to tell you what those will be.

STEPS TO FOLLOW IF YOUR DOG IS NOT LICENSED

  1. Take your current rabies certificate to the town clerk’s office and purchase the license.
  2. If your dog is not current on rabies and Wanderers’ Rest is required to do a rabies run, that cost will be $40 in addition to town fees and boarding fees.
  3. Wanderers’ Rest will fax the rabies certificate to your town clerk and you will need to go purchase the license BEFORE picking up your dog.

Unlicensed strays will be held for a period of 7 days and licensed strays will be held for a period of 10 days.
