Bettering the Madison County community, one paw at a time.

A dedicated fund is helping veterans adopt companion animals and providing resources to ensure their success. This fund covers not only adoption costs but also essential needs like rent deposits, food, leashes, collars, and access to trainers—removing barriers and fostering lifelong companionship.
Every Monday and Friday, adoptable animals are onsite at the Madison County Veterans Agency in Oneida, NY. These visits bring comfort, compassion, and the chance for veterans to find a forever friend.
If you’re a veteran or know someone who could benefit from this program, stop by and meet these incredible animals. Together, we’re building bonds that heal.

Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association offers humane education services including in-shelter tours and field trips, on location presentations and on-site visits to schools, nursing homes and any other community entities. WRHA welcomes invitations to classroom visits, civic and church groups, scout troops and merit badge programs, special education groups, nursing homes, hospitals, day cares and more.
Our visits come with handouts, activities and information that is age appropriate for a variety of animal welfare issues. Special programs such as Character Education fill educational needs by providing teaching standards that meet education laws in NYS schools. WRHA also offers reading programs and studies show that children reading to animals builds confidence and allows space for companionship for both parties.
